Facts & History

Technological University (Mandalay) is one of the oldest engineering educational establishments in Myanmar. TUM has total land area of 65.37 Acres (26.45 km2). It is located in Pathein Gyi Township of Mandalay City. It was established as the Government Technical Institute (G.T.I) being opened by U Nu, Prime Minister of the Union of Burma (Myanmar) on 20th December 1955. There was Diploma level of engineering education. On August 1999, the Government upgraded from GTI to GTC (the Government Technical College) and then it was upgraded from GTC to TUM (Technological University Mandalay) on 20th January 2007.
Therefore, TUM has 63 years experiences of engineering education services. This is a great image of the University in Myanmar for long life education service. TUM consists of totally six faculties and ten departments making effort under the quality process on teaching, learning and practical training for their student outcomes based on education.

Historical Background

In 1955 – Established as the Government Technical Institute (G.T.I).
In 1999 – Upgraded from GTI to GTC (Government Technical College).
In 2007 – Upgraded from GTC to TUM (Technological University Mandalay). Therefore, TUM has 63 years experiences of engineering education services.

Mission
To implement the principles and statues of National Education Law and Higher Education Law.
To cooperate widely among research centre, industries, and organizations in regional and global community by internationally recognized University.
To educate students in their chosen engineering and architecture professions reliable international education standards and the outstanding, creation and innovation on respective research field area.
Objectives of the University
To set up a good way of organizing in University based on international quality management standard of higher education.
To provide as a reference or guideline or official procedure to all staffs who are working at the different service areas of University.
To fulfill the requirements of criteria of international accreditation practice.
To get the certification of international quality management standard of ISO 9001:2008 as a University benchmark.

TUM aims its graduated engineers and architectures to be good leaders for future in different fields of their workplaces.
